How do I connect a camcorder to external hard drive to transfer video without
using computer? I found such a hard drive DR-DV5000, but it costs $2000. If I
install xp in external hdd and connect camcorder via USB2.0 will it work?
Any reply will be appreciated, Thanks, Adam

Adam,

I capture on my computers HD then transfer to my external HD, then delete
from the internal HD. Extra steps but this is the only way I've found.

Obiwan,
Thank you for your reply. I can't use your solution, because my idea is to
have either external HDD or self-contained DVD writer with me, so that I can
film with camcorder for a long time and at the same download the video to
either HDD or to DVD writer. I mean, while I'm outside, away from my
computer. The $2000 40GB external HDD I mentioned must have some circuitry
mimicking computer, because it connects directly to professional camcorder. I
could not locate the schematic for this HDD on the Internet. Thanks, Adam

Sounds a bit like something called a laptop with a DVD writer! - 'tho at
$2000 I hope it has more than 40gb HD

cheers

That unit you speak of is specifically made for JVC
Consider the DR-DV5000 disk recorder from Focus Enhancements, a variation of the
company's FS-3 designed specifically for JVC's GY-DV5000 and DV5001. It can also
mount to JVC's GY-DV500, DV550, and DV700.

here is the website of the company that makes it...........it is possible to do
since they make numerous such devices.
