There was a time when double clicking on a Microsoft Document would bring up
a prompt to save. Now I don't get a prompt, it just opens up Microsoft
Word. Can someone tell me how to turn off this feature of automatically
opening up Microsoft Word so that I will get a prompt to save?

I prefer for any attachment to never automatically load any program.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments on this matter.

Why not right-click and choose Save?

Thank you, Brian. I'm aware of that workaround. I use that extra
step. I pass this along to all my clients who are having problems. and
constantly forget. I'm a consultant who can use a workaround for just about
anything. However, I'm also trying to remove this bug from the computer of
my clients who are having serious problems.

It brings up a document into a fairly unusable format, as they have the
impression that if they print it, will appear the way it looks when Outlook
opens it. This causing me to spend a lot of time trying to explain that
view (of which I wish I could disable forever) verses the print view that
they have already configured.

I can spend a lot of words describing all the problems. Learning how
to stop Outlook from automatically opening this file type (as well as any
others it might start opening) would solve many problems.

Well, you could always add DOC files to the list of files Outlook won't
open. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/blockzips.htm#Level1Remove

Thanks, Brian. I have Office 2003. I setup the register configuration
for Level1Remove, however, this doesn't affect my Microsoft Office Outlook
2003 (11.6359,6360) SP1 version. I added the register string under the 11
as per the instructions.

Thank you kindly for giving a suggestion. I guess currently there
isn't a work-around.
