After installing SP2 on my laptop, when ever I start my up my computor
Microsoft Outlook automatically opens starts a send and receive. How do I
stop this so Outlook only opens when I double click the Icon????

No, I have also unassigned it from MSN messenger and run 'msconfig' to see if
anything in there may be causing it but to no avail. All was fine until I
installed sp2?

I am experiencing the same problem with Outlook Express. IThis
behaviour began after I applied a comprehensive MS-Express update a week
ago. I can't find where it's startinng from and even changed my default
mail client to Thunderbird. MS-Outlook Express continues to prompt me
when I log in.

Any help?

Sorry no solution yet, I have read through all the threads but no one seems
to have an answer. I have searched high and low through my settings to see
what causes is causing this but still no good.

Is Outlook in the startup group on your start menu?
Good suggestion. Actualy there are several load points used by Windows.
In my case, I checked them all and didn't spot anything strange. I am
experimenting by removing the hotfix which "I think" was the start of my
headaches. I'll let you know.

HI Jamie,
all autostart files are also stored in the registry,
so maybe you try this to solve your problem
Open the registry
START | RUN | regedit | OK
navigate to the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
on the right side delete (if present) Outlook.exe respective msimn.exe
also look in the next keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
if they are present

Also check the entries in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Hope it helps

However, the OP also said:

msconfig shows the contents of those registry keys. Since Outlook didn't
appear in msconfig, the Run and RunOnce registry keys don't contain it.

Finally tracked down the cause of this it is due to the file below , not sure
of the purpose of it but disabled it in msconfig start up and hey presto no
more Outlook express on boot up. everything else seems to be fine. However
when I went into 'device manager' system devices it shows this file there
with an ! next to it.
Hcontrol Registry\Common\Run C:\WINDOWS\ATK0100\Hcontrol.exe

That file controls the Hotkeys on an computer with an ASUS multimedia
keyboard. It's non-essential, so disabling won't affect the computer much.
Your multimedia keys just won't work.
