I'm amazed at how hard it is to get this answer. It is a thread under
explorer.exe. I am XP "Home Edition Version 2002" SP2 and IE
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158. Under advanced options, "Enable
offline items to be synchronized on a schedule" is NOT checked.

I have not to my recollection ever specified any site to be sync'd, if
that's what it's doing; AAR I'm sick of giving away significant cycles
to this. I'd first prefer disabling it in settings or registry, but I'm
willing to delete EXEs and/or DLLs - I'm sick of it.

BTW I've attempted to kill the thread, but in Microsoft's infinite
wisdom, doing so kills the explorer app - which for the most part
self-recovers, though restarting the ms_webcheckmonitor thread as well.

googleriffic. hope this helps

What is the purpose of "ms_webcheckmonitor".
I am using xp for an operatng system
and "ms_webcheckmonitor" regularly makes appearences with
no apparent purpose, or one i cannot see.

If anyone can provide any information please post a reply.
Thanks

"ms_webcheckmonitor" has sth. to do with Internet Explorer.
Check this
Microsoft article: Q176960 or Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:
176960. If you wish to get rid of this "ms_webcheckmonitor"
open a
command prompt and go in your system directory:
c:\windows\system32.
Then type: regsvr32 /u WEBCHECK.DLL and the registry entry
is gone and
therewith the trouble. Restart to see the result. If you
however need
"ms_webcheckmonitor" again just register the WEBCHECK.DLL with:
regsvr32 WEBCHECK.DLL and after a restart it's back online.
This
procedure worked fine on my system.
