How to stop MS Word from doubling apostrophes & quotation marks?

Using MSWord for text documents and as my email editor, it has recently begun
doubling all quotation marks and apostrophes without any action on my part -
that I am aware of anyway. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

Which version of Word do you have? Are these two characters on the same key in
your keyboard layout?
