I want to leave my laptop be in a workgroup but i was wondering if
anyone knew a way or had a program that allowed you to be apart of a
domain and log in so it seemed like you were on a domain but windows
really isn't.

Thanks,

I have the same issue and this article did not help. My work laptop was
upgraded to XP Pro and now I'm unable to connect from my XP Home Edition
desktop to transfer files. The Home PC runs ZoneAlarm and I made sure to
include the IP address that the laptop got in the Trusted Zone. I tried net
use and also just entering \\computername\C in the Run line. Always get the
error "The network path was not found" on the Home Ed desktop, and "Windows
cannot find \\Dell\C$" on the XP Pro laptop.

Geoff,

The second error, "Windows cannot find \\Dell\C$", is normal when accessing a
computer running XP Home.

The first error, "The network path was not found", can have many causes.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

Or, we could look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server",
and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem.
Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely
