How to start Outlook with multiple folders?

Thanks to advice from this group, in Outlook 2000 (XP), I was able to start
Outlook and have my Inbox, Calendar, and Tasks each open in a different
window. To accomplish this in 2K, I started with the normal single-pane
Inbox, selected Calendar, then right-clicked to 'Open in a new window'.
Similar exercise with the Task list created a third window.

In Outlook 2K, these three windows were persistent. Every time I re-started
Outlook, the three windows opened up.

Not so in Outlook 2003 -- I need to manually open the two extra folder views
every session. Is there a way to get Outlook 2003 to start with the three
folder windows automatically?

Thanks,
Brad

That's the 'shutdown' sequence I used in Outlook 2002. It closed all open
folders (all three). When I re-executed Outlook, the three windows would
re-open.

In Outlook 2003, the File|Exit does indeed close all three windows, but only
the Inbox window opens the next time I execute Outlook.

Puzzling.

Thanks,

Brad

Hmm it does it here silly question are you giving it enough time to fully
exit out of memory, can you go into Task Manager (assuming Win 2k etc)

No silly questions when something's not working as expected. ;->

This AM I tried firing up Task Manager and watched as I:
- Entered Outlook (Inbox application showed up in TM)
- Shifted view to Calendar, right clicked, and selected Open in New Window
(Calendar application showed up in TM)
- Same action, except for Tasks (Task application showed up in TM)
- Shifted main window view back to Inbox, clicked File|Exit (all three
windows closed, TM entries cleared)
- Waited 30 seconds
- Entered Outlook
- Only Inbox window opened, just that entry showed up in TM
- Also tried repeating the exercise, but doing the File|Exit from Calendar
window - identical results

It's fairly bizarre that your system works as expected, but mine doesn't.
Makes me go hmmmm.

FWIW, I'm on an IBM notebook (T40), running XP Pro SP1, Outlook 2003
11.5608.5703, all XP updates applied.

Very strange my workstation is running same version also tried it on a XP
laptop (SP2) and with out the Office update and still works fine both using
cached exchange mode, then setup a profile with just POP3 and still works
okay To add insult to injury I then started in /safe mode which didn't start
the extra window but I closed by using File > Exit and then restarted and
the extra window appeared. Long shot is I am baffled, all I can suggest is
see if a test profile helps but try and keep it as lean as possible i.e. no
pda minimal add-ins etc.

Thanks for your additional work on this, Robert.

Since my notebook is new, there's little 'extra' stuff installed - no PDA
connection or other links to the .pst files.

One thought I did have last evening, though, is that my new system runs
McAfee Enterprise 7.1.0 with email scanning enabled. My older notebook ran
a previous version of McAfee and did NOT have email scanning enabled due to
the frequency of Inbox loss in Outlook Express (used for my personal
emailbox).

This morning I attempted a test, disabling email scanning from McAfee's
Console. Unfortunately, Outlook hung tight when I fired it up. After
terminating the Outlook task and re-executing, an error message indicated
that the email scan Add-in malfunctioned during a previous session. When I
didn't tell Outlook to disable the Add-in (I wasn't certain that was the
correct action to take), email scanning was re-enabled.

I'll have to scan McAfee's site for any references to abnormal Outlook
behavior with the newer versions, as well as instructions for temporarily
disabling email scanning.

For now, that's about the only difference I can think of when comparing my
old XP notebook with the new one...

Thanks,
Brad
