I want to sort tasks by catagory. When I go to sort by tasks the message
says I can't do that. How do I do it, either by using that column or
creating another one. Ken

I don't know what is meant by "grouping". I sort by clicking the top of the
column. I don't know how to group, beyond clicking on "by catagory" on the
left. Ken

Right-click the column headings. Choose Customize Current View, then click Group By.

#1: If Subject is shown in the folder view simply click on the column
header. If not, right click on the column header, and choose Customize
Current View/Sort.

#2: That might depend on your Outlook version. It's recommended to use the
Categorize dialog: Right click the item and choose Categorize.

1. Clicking on the column heading works for the date, but not for the subject
-> produces the msg, "You cannot sort by this field". This is odd, as I
recall sorting by subject when I first made task entries ... not sure what
has changed.

2. I'm using Outlook 2007. It appears the max number of categories is six
.... any way to increase that?

#1: Fields you cannot sort are either multiple-value fields (like
Categories) or calculated ones (fields that have a formular applied).

Does it work if you use the Customize dialog?

#2: What you see is the list of the very last used categories. That list can
hold up to 15 items. At its bottom you can read "All Categories"...

1. Hmmmmm. Interesting. Yes, I am able to customize. In the customize
dialog box I noticed there is a Subject and a Task Subject. After adding
Subject, I am now able to sort on Subject. What is the purpose of Task
Subject?

2. Ok.

Thanks!

Here I don't see a "Task Subject". Maybe that's a user-defined field, maybe
created by yourself, that do some calculations?

I must have created it inadvertently ... don't know how. Regardless, I have
it working now. Thanks for your responses.
