Derek

i'm running windows 2000 and would like to know i can
disable sharing of subfolders. i know there's a simpler
way than to uncheck inheritable permissions for every
subfolder. thanks.

It's probably not a good idea to have more severe restrictions
in subfolders than in parent folders, because whenever someone
creates a new subfolder, this subfolder will inherit the parent's
relaxed permissions. I suggest you adopt a different share or
folder structure.

well i'm the only person who creates folders, so it's not
a big deal to me. but denying access to subfolders is
possible, right?

Yes - if you do it in two steps:

1. Apply the restrictive permissions to the parent
folder and to all subfolders.

2. Apply the relaxed permissions to the parent
folder only.

i'm a little confused...how do i apply both restrictive
and relaxed permissions to the parent folder??

could you explain in a little more detail as to what
permissions i should apply to the parent folder? what i
should allow or deny?
thx

Let's assume that you have three users: Tom, Dick & Harry.
All of them should have access to the parent folder but only
Tom should be allowed to access subfolders.

Step 1:
- Full access for administrators & Tom
- Deny access to Dick and Harry
Apply these permissions to the parent folder and all subfolders.

Step 2:
- Full access for administrators & Tom
- Full access for Dick and Harry
Apply these permissions to the parent folder only.
