My wife asked me how to set up MS OFFICE OUTLOOK for out of office
assistant. I thought she was just being stupid then ... I soon discovered I
must be too.

The help menu says ... the following but I how do I can't seem to find the
"Out of office assistant" so ... either I've smoked too much good stuff, I
am not in the MS Exhange Server or, there is something wrong with the
instructions. I've smoked too much to know which it is.

Any ideas?

cc: MS help menu below:
This feature requires you to be using a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail
account.

1.. To turn out of office rules (rule: One or more automatic actions taken
on e-mail messages and meeting requests that meet certain conditions, along
with any exceptions to those conditions. Rules are also referred to as
filters.) on or off, on the Tools menu, click Out of Office Assistant.
2.. In the Status box, select or clear the check box next to the rule you
want to turn on or off.

If you are in an Exchange environment (ask your administrator if you do
notknow) you can set the Out of the Office Assistant which is located under
Tools.

If you are not in an Exchange environment you can create a rule that replies
on all e-mails. The downside of this is that you'll have to have your
Outlook open all the time for the rules to process. Make sure you set some
exceptions (for instance based on the subject field so it will not reply on
subject with e.g. reply, failed, undeliverable, etc...) otherwhise you could
create endless mailloops between two mailservers and those can be a real
threat to the mailservers!

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I don't see anywhere in the tools
menu that pertains to your conversation.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't even know what an Exchange Server is,
and what minimal research that I have performed, shows :
Exchange Server is designed to meet the messaging and collaboration needs
for businesses of all sizes, from small organizations to large distributed
enterprises.

WHOOO! That was really helpful.

According to the help pull down from within MS OFFICE, there is supposed to
be a "Out-of_office Assistant" directly located under the TOOL bar pull
down, BUT I don't see such it.

I don't think any more time spent on this problem is worthy of it's purpose.

Thanks for your help anyway.

See the second part of my post as you do not connect to an Exchange server.
