How to set up a network to share files, folders, etc.

Hello,
My friend and I have laptops with XP Home Edition and would like to be
able to share pictures, music, etc. I thought setting up a network would be
much better (faster) than using my 1GB memory stick. I anyone has any advice,
please respond. Thank you,
