Setting views of filenames to show their extensions and to show hidden
files etc was easy in XP.I don't see how to do same in Vista.

Someone help this dummy.

Thanks

Hi

It's under Organize/Folder and Search Options

Lee

Start>Default programs>File associations

You must have a different Vista version than I do. All I see there is
a way to associate an application with a file. That's not what I want
to do. I just want to see extensions shown with the rest of the
filenames.

Thanks

Jethro

It's under the viewing options. 8th option down.

All I see is start> 'Microsoft clip organizer'. You must be telling
me to go to something else. Sorry to be so dumb.

Why does something that was so simple under XP and 98 have to be so
obscure?????

go to the control panel and click on folder options. Click on the view tab
and the two options are right there! I remember XP had the same option
setup.

Any Explorer window: Tool Bar>Tools>Folder Options>View Tab
Uncheck 2nd item from bottom of window (Hide extensions for known
file types),
Same as in XP

Yes Cal Bear but in Vista that tool bar is not there by default...

Either press the left ALT key in a explorer window, this displays the
toolbar we have been used to or click 'organize' in explorer window, folder
and search options, view ... etc

I always have the Tool Bar enabled when available...
Old habits die slowly...
Never even knew the option was there under Organize...
Thank you

My pleasure, ALT button works in IE7 too for the normal tool bar (unless you
haven't enabled it...;-)

Same way in Vista as in XP. Just that by default the Menu bar is not
visible in windows explorer in Vista. So tap the Alt key and it will
appear, then Tools | Folder Options | View.

Another way is to go to Organize | Folder and Search Options View

To have the Menu bar displayed at all times go to Organize | Layout | Menu
bar

Of course you could go to Help and Support from the Start Orb and search on
"display hidden files" for guided help. That shows even other ways to do
it. Vista's Help and Support is extensive.

In exactly the same way, actually. In Windows Explorer, select Tools >
Folder Options > View. (You need to click Organize > Layout first to enable
the Menu Bar, though.)
