How to send large files over Internet

I was using http://yousendit.com/ to send stuff to my relatives with a
great sucess. But now yousendit guys are trying to make them to
downloand a spyware allerting them that their Windows has a problem and
they´ve got a fix.

Well, does anyone know something like yoursendit it to send large file
through Internet?

Are you sure that the problem is with yousendit? Sometimes when a computer
is infected with spyware the user gets confused about where the popups are
coming from.

Well, try it for yourself. They told me, my parents, about that and I
send a file using Avant. Just after a file was sent, a popup came to
alert me to "fix my system". I am using a firewall and CHX-I
PacketFilter, also running anit-virus and Spyboot. I only use Avant in
"safe sites" as Microsoft, BBC radio service, CNN and Yousendit. For
others, or I use Mozilla or Opera ( javascript turned off ) or go to
them with Linux Live-CD. So, I could have a spyware on my system, but I
am not sure of that.

If you go to the Yousendit with Internet Explorer and don´t see any
popup, please alert me.

I just tried with IE. After unblocking popups I got 2 popup (popunder,
actually) ads for various products. None seemed spyware related.

Was "your" popup an ad for a spyware product using formulations such as
"you probably already have been infected!", or was it a warning about
one specific and verifiable problem on your system?

Yes, I´ve got a popup telling me something like that: "There is a
critical error in your system. Blablabla. Do you want to download the
fix now? Yes or Not?". Any ideia about that?
 
It's actually a pretty standard popup, it's just made to look like a Windows
dialog..

FWIW I just downloaded a file from YouSendIt. There were no adverts
(probably because I have them blocked), but IE would not download the file.
Netscape downloaded the file without problems (again, no adverts). I did not
get any popup after downloading.

jmatt's links below cover the options. Of them, I've used Rapidshare
and Dropload. Only precaution is to use a throwaway email address for
BOTH signup (if required) and the person you're sending to. Usually
it involves a download link to follow. You just send the link
yourself, rather than disclose your relative's email to the service.

Like online "greeting cards," I suspect some of these sites may be a
way of harvesting email addresses.

Popups are one source of spyfiles etc, have a look at these sites for

Hi Danyel.
I have seen clints running WinXP home with only service pack 1 installed
getting popups that are part of the Windows messaging <SERVICE> (not
windows messenger) This is a particulary annoying form of spam that
<appears> to be a genuine Microsoft message..it isn't.

Goto Start-->Settings--->Control Panel--->Administrative Tools
--->Services and scroll down to "Messenger". either double-click
or R-Click and choose "Properites" Change the behaviour from
"Automatic" or "Manual" to "Disabled" Presto! No more pop-ups about
critical errors. This bug, errrr... feature was fixed in Service Pack 2.
