how to send an automatic response other than "Out of the Office?

We need to reply to customers that we have received their e-mails when we
don't have time to respond to them right away. Something basic like "Thank
you for your communication"

Is there a way besides "out of office"?

create a rule (go to tools then Rules Wizard).

You want to create a new rule, and don't select a particular message type to
search for- this will choose all messages. then select the option to have a
reply sent to those messages.
