I know this sounds dumb... but I am not the biggest genius with computers. I
was wondering how to save a program to a disk, such as a cd-rw or something.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Is this what you mean?

Download a file without installing it. Save it first, copy to CD, then
install it.

1. Locate a program (file) to download.

2. Once you have clicked on a link to download, a pop-up box will appear
notifying you that you have started the file download process. This box will
either be titled File Download or Unknown File Type. Depending on the box
that appears, click either the OK button or the Save button to proceed with
the download process.

3. A box will appear asking you where you want to save the file you are
about to download.

4. Locate a folder to save the file in. (My Download Files folder.)
By default, it is downloaded to the last folder in which you saved a file.
It is best to create a folder on your hard drive where you will keep all of
your downloaded files. This will keep your file directory uncluttered and
you will always know where to look for anything you have downloaded.

5. Click the Save button. This will initiate the actual download of the
file. A box will appear on your screen that will show the status of the
download.

6. Depending on what file type was downloaded, you will either need to
decompress the file so that you can install the relevant components, or the
file will be in a ready-to-install format. Either way, at this point, this
is the file you want to save to CD.

7. After the file is saved, copy it to CD.

Ok well "Wesley" didn't actually explain "HOW" to copy a file to a CD.

Ok once you've downloaded your files you want to save to a CD. Whether it's
pictures, MP3, programs, etc. Pretty much any files you wanna save.

Right click on the file you want on a blank cd. Move your mouse to where it
says "Send To" and click on your CD-RW drive.

Now this won't save it directly to a blank cd just yet.

What this does is saves to a temporary folder on your hard drive just for
the files you've selected to copy to a cd. Once you've clicked on all the
files you want to send to your CD-RW drive.

Then goto "My Computer" and double-click on your CD-RW drive.
Now it shows all those files that you've been clicking on and sending to the
CD-RW drive. Again they are still just on your hard drive at this point.
Again you see the files you've added. Now once you at this point. You can
right click there in an empty space and click "New" and then "Folder". This
is all up to you. But this way if you want to seperate things on the cd
you're making, into seperate folders. Like Music, Pictures, Software,
Drivers, etc,. Once you have everything as you want to be on the final CD.

You should have tasks there on the left-hand side of your screen. When your
ready to actually put those files you've added, onto a blank CD-R media.
Click "Write these files to CD". And then just follow the directions in the
window that pops up.
It'll ask you to label the cd. Like "BACKUP_JAN_06" for example. Or whatever
you want. Then next it'll ask to insert a blank CD-R media. Do so and click
OK and it'll proceed to copy the files, as you've aranged them, from your
hard drive onto a blank cd. Try not to do anything like opening other
programs and such or downloading files while the "Writing to CD" session is
in progress. And that's pretty much it. And when you wanna make a Music CD or
your favorite MP3s or WMAs. Go to Windows Media Player and click on (BURN)
and edit playlist. Add the music files from your hard drive that you want on
a cd. When ready click on "Start Burn" next to where it says "Edit Playlist"
and then it'll burn to blank cd.

Hope you learned something ;-) Have Fun !!!

None of that is relevant if you have 3rd party cd burning software.
