How to retrieve e-mails and contacts prior to 21st Sept.07

In Microsoft Outlook on 21/09/07 I was asked to show my username and password
to enter (not sure why), which I did. It was not accepted. I then went to my
Broadband provider and they asked me if I wanted to change my password which
I did. On opening Outlook I found I had lost all my e-mails prior to 21/09/07
and also my Contact List was blank. However, when I went to send an e-mail I
typed the name of one of my contacts and it automatically brought up their
address. How can I retrieve my old e-mails and bring up my old Contact List?
 
Where is your mail and contacts stored? What is your account type? What
version of Outlook are you using?
