Jim

When I type in the run box msconfig, I get a message that this file is
missing: C:/windows/system32/mscfgtlc.xml

I don't have a windows Vista disc, the computer came with the program
installed and I don't want to erase everything by doing a restore.

Thank-you

I don't have that file either, yet msconfig opens up just fine on my
computer.
There must be something else going on that is wrong on your system.

Hi Jim,

From the start/search line, type CMD and right click the entry that appears
in the start menu. Choose 'run as administrator', then continue at the
prompt. From the command line, run "sfc /scannow". This will allow the
system to detect missing or corrupt system files and replace them.

Hello,
Correct, I suspect either msconfig.exe is not correct or possibly replaced
or one of the the other Windows VIsta files is missing.
That file (Mscfgtlc.xml )is a Windows XP file via this article
906569 The 906569 update adds the Tools tab to the System Configuration
utility in Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;906569

The Tools tab should be in Windows VIsta by default and does not require
that file to be present.

Thanks,
