Hi,

I have a HP Pavilion PC that came preloaded with HP Image Zone. I've
deleted that program as I use other software.

Whenever I try to open the "My Pictures" folder, I get an error. The
system is trying to open HP Image Zone. I'd simply prefer that the
folder be opened using Explorer.

How do I go about fixing this?

Thanks for your help!

Dave

Not knowing anything about HP Image Zone, I'd suspect that you might have DELETED it
rather than going to Control Panel/Add or Remove Software, finding it, clicking in it, and
clicking the Remove Button. If you didn't uninstall using Add or Remove Programs, that
would leave orphaned Windows Registry Keys/Strings that are could cause that behavior. If
HP Image Zone can be reinstalled, do so. Then uninstall it PROPERLY using Control
Panel/Add or Remove Programs, then reboot your system, and hopefully the problem will be
fixed.

But, if you uninstalled HP image Zone properly using Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs:
Perhaps it wasn't a clean uninstall and left Registry Keys/Strings. In that case I'd
search the Registry for the orphans, and delete them. Before editing the Registry, use
System Restore to create a Restore Point, just in case you make a mistake and delete
something that your system needs.

OR: I found the following post and response in the HP Forums:

Is it possible to configure XP to open My Pictures in an Explorer window. This would
decouple any problems in Image Zone from the problem of accessing files in My Pictures.

Hi,

Follow this steps to resolve the issue.

Download and install the SoftPaq SP24018 from the following weblink to resolve the issue.
This SoftPaq is downloadable from the following weblinks:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software2/COL5016/pv-17426-1/sp24018.exe

1. Download the patch/SoftPaq from the above link.
2. Double-click the icon for the update downloaded in step 1, and then click NEXT.
3. Accept the license terms and then click NEXT.
4. When prompted "Do you want to install the update", click YES.
5. Make note of the location of the files that are copied onto your PC. A message
displaying the location appears, which is usually C:\Program Files\HP.
6. Click OK to exit the update program.

NOTE: After you have added these files to the PC, when starting HP Image Zone under a new
user name, you will be prompted to provide the location for the HPIZ Fix2.MSI file. Use
the location you noted in step 5.

Thanks, but the problem isn't the file association, it's that a program
is being executed when selecting the "My Pictures" *folder*. HP Image
Zone caused this to happen somehow and I no longer have a working
version on my system.

Dave

Thanks T.C.

The software had been removed and there was even a restore point
indicating this. Perhaps the remove didn't finish cleanly.
Unfortunately, HP hasn't helped me to restore the software so I can undo
the option to have Image Zone launch when "My Pictures" is selected.
They sent me the same URL from the HP forum but it just applies a fix
for a different problem that doesn't help me.

I've found a restore point that doesn't cause Image Zone to launch and
I'll work from there.

Oh well...

Dave

PS - I never set Image Zone to launch when "My Pictures" was opened.
This was set either after removing the software or during an automatic
HP software update. I'm guessing the latter.
