How to Remove References to HDD in "Send To" Menu

OS = XP Pro SP 2. Due to my partitioning scheme and the number of HDD in my
system, there are eight fixed drives referenced in my "Send To" context menu.
How do I remove these references?

A search of this discussion group revealed this link
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/context_folders.htm. This provides just enough
information to confuse me since my registry editing experience is limited.

Any insight will be much appreciated.

Hi Rick,

First of all, that URL has nothing to do with the Send To menu. Open the
Send To folder by typing "shell:sendto" in Start, Run dialog. Delete the HDD
shortcuts from that folder. If that does not help, it is possible that the
additional hard drives are being treated as removable drives. For removable
drives, the only way to remove them from the Send To menu is to hide the
corresponding drive-letter using TweakUI. This however hides the
drive-letter from the Explorer hierarchy/ My Computer views as well.

Well then, no wonder I was confused!

My "Send To" folder does not contain any references to the drives, not even
the system drive C. I am familiar with the Tweak UI option but as you state,
this hides the drives elsewhere. I guess that I am stuck with the drive
references which is a shame since it slows down accessing "Send To" which I
use frequently.

One more thought. Are there changes I can make to the registry to remove the
drive references?

Thanks

Rick

You have two options
1.You can root through the registry in the most likely :

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
....
Full registry list of context menu handlers at Rameshs site, god bless him
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm
or

2.This option is also on Rameshs site. Use ShellEXView to find all context
menu handlers (and is safer than regedit, all changes can be undone)

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the hints. I'll give it a go.

And yes, Ramesh's site is an incredible resource.

I had a hell of a time trying to find ShellEX view.exe for you, I got mine
from a site that hasn't existed in a year.

I did a few searches that lead me to Rameshs site. It was a minor shock to
see all that information there already and Ramesh didn't even mention it! Not
to mention you were only ONE page off from all that you were looking for.
Ramesh is getting lazy!
ha.

Thanks Brandon. I DO appreciate the effort.

Hi Brandon,

Rick is actually wanting to remove the hard drive references from the Send
To menu, and does not want to remove the Send To menu itself. The only way
that I know is to hide the drive letters using TweakUI, which of course
hides the drive letters in explorer view as well.

Nope. I don't think so :-)

Well then I'll stop my search for the Send To Menu fix, which has almost
become an obsession.

On to my next XP customization goal! How to control the speed of the task
bar in auto-hide mode to match the speed of an add on task bar provided by my
dual monitor management software.

Thank you both for your assistance.
