I updated Sun Java to jre1.5.0_02 and removed the 1.4.2_06 Java program
listed in Add/Remove. When I went to explorer/programs/java, I found that I
still have j2re1.4.2_05; however, it does not show up in add/remove. It
looks like the full program. How can I remove it?

David

Is there anything in the folders? I know a lot of times, when removing, it
leaves the folders behind if they contain a file that was not part of the
install - such as a config file, a text document, etc. If this is the case,
then you can simple delete the folder.

Like I said, it looks like the full program. I check the folder and files
against 1.5.0_02 and it look very complete. I am sure that something must
be missing because it does not show up in add/remove.

If I understand you, I would just delete that entire folder. If you run into
problems later, just re-download and re-install Java [tis free].

OK. However, it is j2re1.4.2_05 and the present version is jre1.5.0_02 and
that is what is on the Sun Java page.

Can I remove older versions of the JRE after installing a newer
version?

The latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) contains
updates to previous versions. There might be some applications or applets
written and tested against a specific version of the JRE.

It is recommended that you keep older versions of the JRE on your
system. If you are running low on disk space, you can uninstall older
versions of the JRE.

To remove older versions of JRE, go to Windows Java Runtime
Environment uninstallation instructions page.

Thanks but this says to use Add/Remove which worked for one version but not
the one I asked about.

David,
You've had 3 or so of us say the same thing, but yet you still wish to
argue about it. If you don't want or refuse our advice, then go to the Sun
site and research your problem - after all, it is their software and not
Microsoft's.

I am not arguing; I am just answering comments that were posted. I did
searched sun and google before I posted to this newsgroup. I always do
google and the s/w vender first before posting here. Deleting the 1.4.2_06
Java is obvious but it does leave the entrees in the registry. I though I
would ask for other ideas before I did that.
