How to remove comments from PC name in Explorer?

When I open Network Places in Win XP (or Server 2003), the first column Name
shows Comments before actual PC name, like <comments>(name). If comments is
long enough, it's impossible to see the real name. I have more than 50
networked computers, and it takes unnecessary long to find one I need in the
list. If anyone knows, how to remove comments from the Name field?

1. Click "Start", right-click "My Computer", and then click
"Properties".
2. On the "Computer Name" tab, delete the computer's description in the
"Computer description" box.
3. Click "OK" to close the "System Properties" dialog box.

If you just do not want to see the comments in My Network Places, just
change the "View" in My Network Places" to "List" instead of "Details".
or in "Details" view right click on the comments heading and uncheck
"Comments".

If I change View to List, the problem is still there. I'm trying to explain
that comments put themselves inside the field "Name", in front of actual
name of computer. It looks like "This is Windows 2003 server on the second
floor (File_server_01)" in the column "Name", doesn't matter what kind of
view you use. File_server_01 in this example is the actual computer's name.
And I don't want to see comments there. By the way, in the earlier Windows
versions, before XP, this problem didn't exist.

Thanks for your response,
Sincerely,
Sergei

Sergei,

to the best of my knowledge this cannot be changed in Windows
XP, except by removing or changing the comments on all
computers.

You may have to live with it for now.

Yes, you cannot change those other than by removing the comments completely.
