Some weeks ago I installed Windows Vista as a new installation on drive D. I
kept Windows XP on drive C: as a dual boot option until I had tried Windows
XP.
Later, when I had found Vista to be working ok on my system, I decided to
install Vista as an upgrade on Drive C, so that I could use all my installed
software and settings under Vista.
In the boot manger menu I now have the option to choose between two version
of Vista, but I need only the version on drive C. How do I remove the
installation on drive D (and remove the option in the Boot Manger menu)?

Thank you

Personally, I would use the command line and BCDedit.exe for this. There
are also third party Vista Boot Manager editing tools that offer a
graphical interface if you're not comfortable with command line.

The following Knowledge Base article is not an exact fit for your
configuration but it gives a simple description of the use of the delete
command for BCD:

For more in depth BCD info see the following article:

I would do the same but in a different order especially since both are now Vista drives and to
Vista Boot Pro - remove boot loader
Remove the D: drive item from the dual boot menu
Restart
Verify you are on the newer Vista drive(if common logon names etc, a file before removing the boot loader can be first placed in the root folder of the newer installed o/s)
Format the other Vista drive.

: If Vista is the only thing on D:, then just reformat that partition.

: To remove the boot option, download & use VistaBootPro (free)
