How to remove alternate operating system

I just installed XP on a 40GB hard drive that had
previously been partitioned. The smaller partition ~14GB
held the C: drive and my old operating system 98SE. When
I installed XP I wanted it in the larger partition D:.
Now I have a multiboot system but I don't need the 98SE.
It's probably obvious from my installation that I'm not a
techie. If someone can explain how to do this in baby
steps I'd really appreciate it.

I would delete both partitions and reinstall XP on a single NTFS
partition on that hard drive. The alternatives are much more onerous to
configure, so if you don't have any data yet to backup, just start over.

Kent mvp doesnt have a clue in xp !!!!
Install xp cd,if in explorer exit the info page then restart computer,
boot to xp cd,recovery, press enter key for password. At cmd screen
type:DiskPart In DiskPart all partitions are displayed, select the unwanted
and delete, then if you want, create, then press Esc key, back in cmd, type:
FORMAT D: /FS:ntfs D: being the raw partition,when its thru,type:EXIT
Or after you deleted,Esc,EXIT,on desktop go to run, type:diskmgmt.msc
Youll see the raw partition,R.click on the space and create.

She can't get rid of the C: partition because that is where her boot
loader files must be. She can wipe out the OS on that partition, but she
must maintain the C: drive so that the boot loader can load and run
Windows on D: I've done a dozen of these and I do know what I am talking
about. I also know how to use the Disk Partition manager.

Of course there are ways to fix it, but it's simpler to start over since
she just did it and doesn't want anything from the old OS. If what you
are saying is remove all partitions, then that is starting over.
