Because of having troubles with my windows XP Pro I decided to repair
windows using the setup feature right from the win setup CD and the
recommended update installation. After 15 minutes my computer lost
power caused by a fall out of electricity.
When starting up my dsystem I hadf two Win XP installation. The
original one and the setup one witch was cancelled half way.
Every time I startup my system it automatically startsup this new half
ready update which is seeking for a certain DLL file which isn't
there. I have to switch manually to the ols Win installation which is
running perfectly now.

1. How can I remove this half broke down setup and what steps do I
have to make.
2. Is there a simple way to get it done.

A new installation or setup or repair is probably not recommended. I
just want to remove this whole second Win XP setup which is half
installed and which files I can see in my normal paths using explorer.

Thanks in avance for every real solution to this problem.

Hi Bert,

Boot the installation you want to keep. Open Windows Explorer and delete the
files from the partial installation.

Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok. Go to the boot.ini tab, click
on the line in [operating systems] that loads the installation you want to
keep. Click "set as default". Click apply/ok and reboot. It should now
automatically go to the right installation. Go back into msconfig, and this
time on the boot.ini tab click the button to "check all boot paths" and it
should offer to remove the invalid one.
