I really need help with my computer hard drive. I currently have 2
partitions set up (I don't know why), and I want to make it so I don't have
the D Drive any more so my C Drive is bigger.

Please help me . . . (thank you)

You can only do this with a third party app, eg Partition Magic, unless of
course you wish to blow everything away with a clean install, but having
said that if you only have a recovery disk it might recreate the partitions
to put the sys back to its supplied state.
Having said that why bother? simply install new apps on D, or move My
Documents to D - rt click My Documents/properties/move

Thank you for your reply.

What I really want to do is install Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 onto my
computer but when I go to install the program, it tells me that there is not
enough disk space.

If I had the C & D partitions merged which I would like to do, would this
fix my problem, explained below -

Paid for 160 GB Sata Hard Disk Drive (did not know it was going to be
partitioned into C & D Drives) -

C Drive Properties –
Used Space = 7.68 GB
Free Space = 322 MB
Capacity = 7.99 GB

D Drive Properties –
Used Space = 213 MB
Free Space = 140 GB
Capacity = 141 GB

Want to run Photoshop Adobe Elements 4 –

System requirements

Windows
Ø Intel® Pentium® III or 4 or Intel Centrino™ (or compatible) 800MHz
processor

Ø Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, Home Edition, or Media Center
Edition 2005 with Service Pack 2

Ø 256MB of RAM (512MB recommended)

Ø 900MB of available hard-disk space

I am willing to re-store my computer and start from scratch if it is going
to work.

Thank you,
Chantel

As I said you can only do so with a third party App
If you are not going to buy one then;
1) You need to try to run Disk Cleanup
2) In Internet options, Temp files, adjust the slider to 50-100mb
If Disk Clean up wont run, again in internet options, delete cookies/temp
files
3) Move My Documents to D
4) Custom install Adobe to the D drive - ensure installation Folder is
D:\Program Files\Adobe
5) Uninstall any apps on C and custom install all to D

Your sys has been setup with a minimum size C drive of 7.99gb, personnally I
would have set it to 10-15gb, you therefore need to install any apps on D.
This type of configeration is quite common

Chantel:
As DL as informed you, you can merge your two partitions into one by using a
third-party program such as Partition Magic. Using a program like that will
retain the data currently on those partitions.

But I take it you just as well would like to start fresh since you're not
particularly interested in salvaging the programs/data on those two
partitions. If that is the case, i.e., you're willing to lose all the data
currently on your hard drive, then just "start from scratch" as you propose.

Using your XP installation CD, undertake a fresh install of the operating
system. During the installation process you'll have an opportunity to delete
your two partitions and create a single partition, format same, and install
the OS onto that partition. So when the dust settles, you'll have a single
partitioned HD of approximately 149 GB.

Unfortunately, no version of Windows provides any way of changing the
existing partition structure of the drive nondestructively. The only way to
do what you want is with third-party software. Partition Magic is the
best-known such program, but there are freeware/shareware alternatives. One
such program is BootIt Next Generation. It's shareware, but comes with a
free 30-day trial, so you should be able to do what you want within that 30
days. I haven't used it myself (because I've never needed to use *any* such
program), but it comes highly recommended by several other MVPs here.

Whatever software you use, make sure you have a good backup before
beginning. Although there's no reason to expect a problem, things *can* go
wrong.

You're trying to install it on C:. Change it to D: during the installation.

Yes. See my other post in this thread, sent a few moments ago.

I am willing to re-store my computer and start from scratch if it is
going to work.

That will also accomplish what you want, and if you don't have anything you
are concerned about losing (or have it backed up on other media) that may be
the easiest solution for you.
