I want to remove one of the AD domain controllers from
the network. Is it necessary to demote it to a member
server first ? and do the metadata cleanup ? Or ??

Please let me know the standard way and the proper steps
I should do.

Also, how about removing a member server ? Any special
issue I should concern ?

THANKS VERY MUCH !!

Hello

You should always demote a Domain Controller as long as you can, thats the
correct way=)

To demote Active Directory and make the server to member server and remove
the DC role run DCPROMO as you did when you one time setup AD, this wizard
will now help you to remove AD correct.

For Windows2000 follow this KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307304

For Windows Server 2003 follow this KB:

Wing,

You should be able to simply do a dcpromo to bring it down to a member
server. After that you might need to go into ADSS and remove it from there
and you might need to go into the DNS MMC and remove any lingering entries.

If it works then you should not necessarily need to do the metadata cleanup.
