I'm having some trouble re-installing Windows Messenger (I have MSN 6.2). I
removed it some time ago and cannot get it to work again. I've gone so far
as to download 4.7 from MSFT's download site and after the
installation...same problem; namely, running
Windows Messenger..simply does nothing. I'm fairly consistent about
maintaining a stable XP Pro system and was surprised that the "Add Windows
Component" didn't work. I'm running Norton 2003 if that's an issue.

Question: how can I uninstall and install a clean version on Windows
Messenger. The news group wasn't very helpful.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

This is the event entry when trying to run the "re-installed" Windows Messenger:

The description for Event ID ( 4 ) in Source ( (MSN/Windows) Messenger Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: .

Greetings Paul,

Download and run these .reg files in the affected account:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablewindowsmessenger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablemessenger.reg
After running these, reboot and then try opening Windows Messenger again.

Thanks for that tip (I posted a similar problem way above somewhere and
no-one suggested this tip) Now my Win Msgr is working fine.
