I have two nosey kids, who are always snooping through my files, is there
anyway I can stop my kids getting into my folders from their own user log
on.

can anyone help please?

Right-click the folder and choose Sharing and Security. Check the box next to Make this folder private.

Thanks for that info Patty, but I just tried that, but for some reason the
check box wasn't highlighted to allow me to check it. any ideas why?

I don't see anything wrong with that as long as the kids aren't playing those
rotten video games.

Right-click the folder and choose Sharing and Security. Check the box next

Go to Control Panel-Folder Options, and under the View tab, scroll down
to Advanced settings and uncheck the "Use Simple File Sharing". This
will give you a Security Tab when you right click on a folder and you
can then deny access to that folder from any user you like. (I think you
must have Pro to be able to do this though....)

It isn't the security tab issue, rmw. This is the Sharing and security context menu entry. That should be available with Simple File Sharing enabled. (It is here.)

Two possibilities. I assume you are logged onto your profile and this is one of your folders? And you are an administrator? The other possibility is that you are in a child folder that takes it settings from a parent folder. For instance, a sub folder of My Documents takes it settings from My Documents, and you have to make that folder private, not the sub folder.

What you say seems to make sense, but I've been trying all weekend to no
avail. It seems that none of the folders or individual files will let me
check them to make them private, I am logged on as the administrator so I
really don't know what else to try.
Never mind, Its probably down to something really simple, just going to be a
matter of perseverance. Thanks for trying anyway.
