How to prevent the kids from printing (er...per-user printer access?)

Hi everyone,

I'm running XP Pro with three accounts on it. Me, my wife, and the
kids. The wife and I use passwords; the kids don't. They're very young
and often end up abusing our printer, sort of by accident. I'm talking
hundreds of print jobs.

Can I prevent *their account* from printing, while keeping the shared
printer available to everyone else (including workgroup users)?

In other words: how can I manage per-user access to the printer? I'd
like to just cut them off and leave everything else the way it is.

Thanks!

How about pointing "their" default printer to the printer you install on
LPT2. In other words install the printer again on "lpt2" and make it
their default.

If you're looking for something a little stronger, you can try this. Go into
Control Panel -> Folder options. On the View tab uncheck the last line
"Disable simple file sharing". Now go to Control Panel -> Printers and
Faxes. Right click the printer. Select Properties. On the Security tab,
you'll see a box that lists the users and groups that have access to this
printer. Remove the Everyone group. If your children's account is not a
member of the administrators or power users group this should be enough to
accomplish your goal. Do not change any of the settings to Deny. This can
have unintended consequences.
