How to permanently set paragraph settings to zero not auto

I have been using Outlook ever since the first release many years ago. Most
of my friends consider me the Guru on it. However, I have been fighting with
my MS-Outlook for some time now, with a specific problem I just can’t figure
out. I guess this is a combination of MS-Outlook-2003 and MS-Word-2003. For
tech purposes here is the version and etc.. info I have. MS-Outlook 2003
(11.6359.6360) SP1 Part of MS-Office Professional Edition 2003. Anyway, I
don't like my E-Mail documents all being either 1½ or Double spaced all the
time. I prefer single spacing, with -0- spacing above and below the
paragraph line. I know how to set this, Lord knows I have done it thousands
of times. However, that is the problem. I would like to figure out how to
set it to what I want permanently! As it is now EVERY time I open a new
E-Mail to send out, then I have to highlight the entire E-Mail, go to
-Format> Paragraph- and inside there change the Before & After Spacing to
-0-. Because it is by default set to -Auto-. I just want to know how to get
rid of the setting of -Auto- and set it to a default of -0-. Thanks!

Hi, Gburya;
Two ways around that problem:
Send your e-mail in plain text.
Or if you wish to continue with HTML, don't use Word as your e-mail editor.
I just tried that for the first time. Didn't change anything else--got single
spaced paragraphs, which also showed up single spaced in my Hotmail account.
Hope this helps.
Ian.

Thanks IanRoy!
However, neither of those are options I wish to pursue. I am very adamant
that there MUST be a way to do this. I have tried going to MS-Word and
manking the changes there, but it still does not work. Because of many
things I do, I require that I use MS-Word as my default editor.

I do very much appriciate your reply and assistance, however I am going to
hold out and pray for a better answer.

Thanks so very much!

Hi, Gburya;
There probably is, but I don't know it. I do have a Word Template at
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033" named EMAIL.DOT which may
be the one you need to modify. But I do not intend to experiment. HTML from
Word looks different on the receiving end from the composing end, and I think
I will be using Outlook itself for HTML from here on out. If you don't get a
response here, try a post in the Word newsgroup. Since you are using Word as
your e-mail editor, it should be appropriate. Susan Barnhill, who hangs out
over there, is very knowledgeable.
Good Luck.
Ian.
