how to open private folder after reinstallation.

My system got virus last month so i decided to reinstall
my windows xp. After succesfull installation, I can not
access my user folder which i made it private folder
before the new system install. How can I access this user
folder as some of my work are still in there. I can see
the directory under user folder but i can not access it.
Please help! thank you
