How to open a .pst file (non email)?

I created a pst file in Outlook 2002. Wasn't using it for email, just for
tasks and calendar.
Then I installed Outlook 2003 and couldn't open the file.
Now I go back to Outlook 2002 and can't seem to open the file there either.
Is there an easy way to read this file?
I'd prefer to do it without dilly-dallying with the Outlook software. I've
learned my lesson - won't bother trying to archive tasks with .pst files.
Thanks in advance,
hj

File > Open > Outlook Data File will open any valid PST file without fail.
Tell us why you can't open yours. You've provided no information.

I used the .pst file just for tasks.
The message I get is "The file C:\temp\tasks.pst" is not a personal folders
file.
It was created in Outlook 2002 and I am trying to open it in o2002, but not
sure why it's not working.
Thnx
hj

Neither are we.
How did you create it?
How did you transfer it?
Therein will lie the answer I suspect.
If you created it by exporting it, there's a good chance its corrupt.
If you transferred it by putting it on storage medium, there's a good chance
it acquired a read only attribute which must be removed.
There are lots of other possibilities, but without information we can only
speculate. These 2 are the most common.

Is your .pst file on a CD or your hard drive? If a CD, copy to the hard
drive, remove the read-only check mark from its properties and then try to
open it using Outlook->File->Open->Outlook Data File. If it still does not
open, look for (windows search - enable searching hidden/system files)
scanpst.exe and run it against your .pst file.
