upps this is not the thing I want know.

it means NEVER use this dictated Windowssetting who "allways" use c:\

in other words I, not someone in Redmond, will decide where my personal
Folder is located

Thanks

I don't think you'll find ANY OS that allows you to dictate that...even
Linux doesn't. At least Windows ALLOWS you to move the "My Documents" to
another partition/drive.....

Hello seems i got a problem:

A. any, someone smart, comptuteruser should store his datas on a different
partition or HD as his programms.
B. that would give the only and definitly way that the MS dictated MY
Documuments and Settings "HAS TO MOVE"
C. that also need all MS Dictated programms who automaticly store
"everything " on C:\mydocuments....... is not a smart idea or a clear
opposite thing from "every" Standpoint of data security.

So again my question is, how to change this thing easy ??? going into the
registry and using tweak is one way but not easy.

Is this "standard logic procedure" to much ??? for MS, i guess yes. Seems
there is a big Server soloution or nothing (nothing means a playtoy for
kids and unspectacular homeuseres who browse a little and wirte five letters
a year and work on 2 spreadfiles, called XP... whatever) anybody else
should by a server package and hire a 100'K salary, network and MS
Troubleshooting administrator

As another poster has said, Right-click on "My Documents" icon, choose
Properties, and go to "Move". DEAD EASY. What's the problem with that?

You can store your data anywhere you want. My Documents is provided as a
guide. There are a number of ways to either move the standard "My
--------" folders or to set defaults elsewhere. For instance if you look
up "moving My Documents" on Google, you'll get a plethora of suggestions.

I'm having trouble understanding what you're trying to write here. If
you don't backup your data, and provide security via anti-malware
precautions, then where you put your document root folder won't make a
great deal of difference.

Using Tweak UI is much easier than going into the Registry.

I don't understand any of what you've written here: seems kinda random...

Where is the "move" tab? All I have with "properties" is "general" and
"sharing".

I didn't refer to a "move" or any other tab anywhere in my post. I'm
assuming you're clicking on the icon for My Documents to see the Move
button on the Target tab of its Property dialog.

Then you are right-clicking on the wrong place - go to Start and right-click
in the "My Documents" ICON. On the "Target" tab there is a button half-way
down the box called "Move"

Thanks but I don't have "My documents" above the start button. When I go to
drive C\documents and settings\my documents and right click on it I get
\compress, explore, open, cut, copy, delete, rename etc. and the last on the
list is properties. The properties tab just has general and share. I still
cannot find the move command.

Eh? /home can reside on any partition or drive you want in Linux.

And even if you move "My Documents", you can't move "C:\Documents and
Settings".

Didn't you ask this yesterday and receive multiple responses? The
process to move the My Documents folder is very easy. If you want
security for your data, make sure there is always a full and complete
backup - look into a drive imaging program - and have redundancy in the
backups - different media. Keeping data on a separate drive does have
it's advantages and makes backup easier, but it's not any more "secure".
