Downloaded Office 07 trial to my XP laptop and Vista desktop. On laptop used
File: Import and Export and transferred contact, emails, and folder. On
desktop I first get an error message titled [Identity switch canceled] [The
current identity could not be changed because one of the applications was
unable to switch. Close any open dialog box in other applications before
trying again] hit OK then it brings up a browse box and I select the Windows
Mail folder and try manually. It imports the contacts and when it starts on
e-mail I get the following error [The mail folder could not be opened. If
another application is using this file, please close and try again]. Have
tried resetting with only Outlook running and same thing. How can I get my
email into Outlook?

There is no .pst file in the C:\Users\William
Julien\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail folder. There is a .pat file
named WindowsMail that is only 16KB and will not load.

Sorry my missread
If you are trying to get your Windows Mail into Outlook, the previous method
with Outlook Express was to Export Mail from OE to OL & Import addresses in
OL from OE
Both OE & OL being on the same PC
I believe the method with Vista hasnt changed

Also tried the export to Outlook from Mail. It goes through the whole process
of exporting all messages. However it dose't allow me to select a location
and I don't know where it puts and can't find them. Tried searching for
Outlook.pat and Vista will NOT even find the default one even though I'm
looking at it.

The Export (to OL) from OE/Mail exports to the default outlook.pst file.
The outlook.pst is a hidden file

I did it 3 times and it never added any mail, folders, or contacts to
Outlook. Just removed Office and did a system restore. Will try to install
Office again.

You are right it didn't but it did make things worse. Now my trial says it
has expired and I can't run. I may have figured out the problem but no way
to test. I use Hotmail and have a push program called Hotmail Popper. It
may be that it can only work with one or the other I must remove it from
Windows Mail first. I email MS trying to get a key so I can continue my
evaluation but who know what will happen.
