How to measure temps

What do folks use to measure the CPU and system tempratures? I just
installed the software that came with my ECS 848P-A mobo expecting that
would install a utility that would do so. No such luck. Searched the
CD and no sign of something to do this.

Searched thier web site and nothing found there either.

If you just want to look, it might show in "basic input/output" BIOS setup.
To get into the BIOS, usually you press delete while the system is booting.
Unless you provide more information and/or someone else advises, you will
have to figure out which page/topic in the BIOS.

Rich,

I have an Asus mainboard, and Asus makes a utility available to read the
parameters. I'm not braggin'.

I've also used Motherboard Monitor
(http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311). The good news is that it
works with a variety of motherboards. There are two sorts of bad news about
it: one is that it takes a bit of fiddling to configure. The second is that
its author has stopped development of it.

Sisoft SANDRA (http://www.sisoftware.net/) is less useful as a real-time
monitoring tool, but it can display things like CPU temperatures.

There may be better tools, but those are the ones I'm familiar with.

HTH.

Everest Home Edition by Lavalys (used to be known as Aida32) has a
sensor option under the 'computer' section. Also a pretty good tool to
have for all its other features.

Fine except I don't want to have to reboot whenever I want to knoe the
temp of the CPU.

Thanks to the other people who have offered useful solutions.

There was nothing in your original post which suggested that your system
supports temperature sensing, that it was functioning properly, or that
you know how to tell. If the hardware isn't working or doesn't support
the function, software isn't going to help. I think that a good first
step is to look in the BIOS.

The fact that your mainboard maker did not include temperature sensing
software and according to the web page data sheet

http://www.ecsusa.com/products/848p-a.html

there is no indication that it does support temperature sensing,
suggests to me that you should check the BIOS. That's where you start.

Good luck.

First off, thanks for that URL. The box gives www.ecs.com.tw and that
site is almost free of useful info, and the support section never
replies to queries. I will try via this site, and see what downloads it
has to offer.

Second off, if I reboot and go into the setup screens, one of the BIOS
screens gives the CPU temprature. If the BIOS can read it, I would hope
that an external program also could.
