How to make XP recognise more than 137GB on a WD250GB Sata dive

I have two new Western Digital WD2500JD-19HBB0 sata drives running on an
AMD64 CPU with Win XP home edition SP2. Windows will not allow me to format
the drives past 137GB using disk manager or partition magic.
I have reinstalled Windows and reformatted the drives without success. What
else can I try?

Windows XP with SP1 installed can handle partitions larger
than 137GB. If the PC is elderly, though, it may need an
update to the BIOS (i.e. "flash" the BIOS). Check with the
manufacturer of the PC or with the manufacturer of the
motherboard. See:
