Hi,

I have a DSL internet connection from SBC. This connection has a dynamic
IP address. I was wondering, can i make my IP static? i tried to
hardcode my current IP,Subnet mask,DNS,Gateway setting into the TCP/IP
properties but it doesnt work.

Please let me know if anyone has a better idea. I am running win XP(pro)
with IIS server on my home computer.

Thanks in advance.

Your ISP is the only one who can make your Internet IP static. SBC does
provide this option, but for about 20 dollars more a month i believe.

Well... its not 20 more dollars. its almost double of the dynamic IP
connection ($64 per month).

Therefore, i am looking for a cheap way to do that.

please Help ?

Hello,

You should look into a free service called www.no-ip.com that lets you run a
small utility and updates your IP into an address you have and is constant
like http://mhk.no-ip.com. So even if your IP changes the domain name is
constant.

This is what I use for my FTP, HTTP server. It also works with netmeeting
and VNC.

There is a way to connect a bought domain name (like www.mhk.com)
, but I have not done it.

Hope this solves your problem

Kenny
