I run Windwos XP professional on a stand-alone machine. My problem is that
the Administrator account is not visible, neither in the windows logon
picture nor in the "User account" picture of the control panel.

I would like to remove the administrator privileges from the account I use
to surf on the internet, and use the Administrator account to install new
software etc. How can I make the administrator account visible in the
windows logon picture?

The Administrator account is on the system, when I try to create it I am
told that it exists from before. It is also visible in control panel,
administrative tools, computer management, local users and groups.

Greetings --

Once any additional user accounts have been created, the
Administrator account will no longer be displayed on the Welcome
Screen. This is a default security feature. By design, the only way
to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to reboot into
Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome
Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.

To change this default security practice:

Hide/Show users on the Welcome Screen
