I have XP home and I remenber about a year ago I followed some tip so I
would not have to enter a password to log on. But now I don't see any way to
logon as administrator. No dialog ever comes up to enter login name. Any
ideas I've searched all I can on this machine.
Thanks

You need to boot the machine to safe mode (press F8 while booting).

Mrtee has explained the method for logging on to the built-in Administrator
account. Using XP Home, this account is only available in Safe Mode.

If auto-logon was setup using control userpasswords2 and you decide to add
other accounts, you could log on to those by pressing shift while Windows
is loading. That action will result in the appearance of a logon screen.
