I wish to make an Enhanced CD (CD-Extra format) and to have the
Powerpoint presentation play the audio tracks on the audio track.
How do I link to the audio track? (It is currently in CDA format but I can
change the format)
Can you please help?
sincerely,
Anil Philip

Some more info:
I have saved the PowerPoint presentation as an html file.
I am going to have the CD autorun and bring up the html slideshow in a
browser and then have the audio track play - this contains the narration.

You have quite a few things going on here, so the answer is not as
cut-and-dried as you might like.

First, I would probably just make a data CD instead of a CD-extra. But
that's ultimately up to you.

Unless you need for the CD to be able to play both PPT files in the computer
and also as an audio CD in someone's, say, car stereo, you don't need the
"extra" audio part of the CD-extra. Even if you do decide to include the
extra audio portion, PPT will look to the data side for the audio files. So
you'll need to include the narration files there as well.

So basically, you rip the audio from the CD and insert it into your PPT file
using Insert/Movies and Sounds/Sound from File. Make sure to put the sound
files in the same folder with your presentation before you insert them into
the presentation. See Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links
break when I move or email a presentation
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm for specifics. Also see Play
sounds across multiple slides (A WAV runs through it)
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00047.htm for specifics on spanning the
sounds.

As for the HTML part, you'll need to manually set the sound files to play
across the slides in the HTML. I'm assuming, based on your description
below, that your narrations aren't split up slide-by-slide.

And sorry, but I can't email responses to you. That defeats the purpose of a
newsgroup.

Echo S, thanks for replying (I didnt know there was a reply to my question
posted)
I am trying to distribute a talk on CD and wanted to also have the PPT
slides with it. I need to have the CD play in a car stereo and when inserted
into the computer, the PPT slideshow runs with the talk track playing.
The talk is 60 min long and so would prefer to play the CD audio track
(rather than duplicate it rip it into MP3 which is 55 Mb).
thanks,
Anil

may help you, Anil.

Basically, you need to insert your MP3 files into your PPT file and create
your autorun CD folder structure. Then you'd burn a "mixed mode" (aka
"enhanced") CD. Put all that stuff on the data side, and put a second copy
of the MP3s on the audio side.

Echo, thanks for that link, I read through it. The audio session will have
to contain standard CD audio since folks will be listening on standard older
CD players.
Does anyone know the max size limits of audio session and data session? So
that one can know the max lengths of the talks.
I think the max size total of a CD is 630 Mb.
thanks,
Anil

It depends on the software that you are using to burn the CD and the format you
are using. Your software should tell you whether you have exceeded the "safe"
amount of data to be included on the CD.

You can purchase larger CDs, though. 700MB is pretty easy to find, and it
might allow you just enough extra space.

But, as Sonia said, your CD burning software should let you know if you've
exceeded the space on the CD.

Question: Is there sufficient space on the CD to have both the CD audio

If not is there a better solution?

Anil, you will just have to try it. I can't tell you whether it will fit on
your CD-R. If there is not room then you need to consider reducing the length
of the audio.
