I run some heavy applications like Photoshop and have always
nailed-down pagefile size, and defraged it. I've been doing this since
NT 3.51.
I see that XP has changed the memory management enough that I should
try to go with the flow. My XP laptop had a fixed pagefile which I
just changed to "let system manage it" and rebooted.
When the system came up I started perfmon to measure sawpfile size and
I see the the "explain" button for pagefile usage says it's reported
in terms of a percentage, buy I don't know what that means since I'm
letting XP size my pagefile.
FWIW, I've always thought that that perfmon was a nice system, but the
guys that designed the GUI and documentation should have been fired,
circa NT4. As of XP, I see they're still employeed.
