How to insert email addresses from Contacts via the To: button?

First, forgive me if this is long, I just want to thoroughly explain the
problem.

My goal is to be able to click on the To: field of a new email message and
select addresses from my contacts to whom I wish to send the email.

When I click the To: field, the 'Select Names' dialog box opens. It is
pre-populated with the Global Address List from our Microsoft server, none of
whom I wish to email. The email addresses I wish to use are in my own
Contacts folder, not the Global Address List. So, when I click on the drop
down button to select 'Outlook Address Book' it tells me there are 'no
entries in this address book.' When I select 'Contacts' underneath the
'Outlook Address Book' on the drop down list, there is nothing.

How do I tell Outlook to populate this 'Select Names' list with my Contacts?
(I am NOT using a personal folder, nor do I wish to use it.)

I know that this is possible because in my old job (where we actually had
decent tech support - I have absolutely none now) this feature worked
beautifully. I just can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to
work now. I figure it must be some setting that I'm missing somewhere?

Any help is appreciated!

Right click on contacts folder and go to outlook address book and click on
show this folder as an email address book.

If you right click on your current Contacts folder and choose Properties
then go to the Outlook Address Book tab, is the "Show this folder as an
email address book" box cheked?

I'm guessing that your contacts do have email addresses in them, correct?

THANK YOU! Now I have to ask myself why on earth I couldn't find this
solution on my own? But that's a whole other issue.... :-)

Many thanks to both responders!

(And yes, Vince, the contacts do have email addresses.)
