how to insert column data or tab delimited data into a table

I have a report that has a header and then a section of 3 columns in tab delimited format. I want to copy the 3 column field and paste it into a table. I created a table of 3 columns with Xn of rows, when I paste it, it will not drop instinctively into the 3 columns. Everything is pasted in one column. How do I do this.
 
Paste the report into regular text, without trying to set up the table
first. Then, with the text still selected, go to Table > Convert > Text to
Table. The dialog should already show that it will create 3 columns
separated at tabs; if it's set any other way, change it. Click OK and you'll
have your table.
