I hear that windows XP allows people to
enter chinese characters.

My PC runs windows XP, and I have added Chinese(PRC) to
the Text Service and Input Language under Regional and
Language Options.

How do I enter chinese characters in MS word?

Thanks in advanced.

What language is your OS?
Try Control Panel/Regional and Language Options\Languages\Details\

Select Default input language for your desire language - if it is installed.

Further customization can be done by clicked Properties in the Installed
Service.

By default, click Alt+Shift will change different input method.

Good luck

Do you see the Language bar? It use to be on the Taskbar, near the clock.
Press it and choose CN instead of EN or whatever your default language is
now. if you don't see the language bar, you can display it by going to Text
Services and Input Languages again, press the Language Bar button, and
check a checkbox to make it appear.

When you choose CN, that works not only for Word but for many other
programs aswell.

Hi Beiwu,

Yes, you are right.

In Windows XP, you do not have to install the IME as
Windows XP already includes the necessary IME files to
input East Asian languages and languages that require
complex script characters or the ability to input right-
to-left languages.

To find out more information about Input Method Editor
(IME) in Windows XP, click Help and Support on Start
menu, type "IME" (without the quotation marks) in the
Search box, and then click Start Searching to view
the "Add another keyboard layout and Input Method Editor
(IME)" topic returned.

Hi Annie:

Correct me if I am wrong. My system was initially installed with English
version of Win XP Pro only, and it did not come with input method for both
Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

Our company purchased multi-language user interface pack for the two (and
other) languages so that we can have the ability to input those languages -
and of course for even better language support.

If kindly let me know if this is true that English version of XP Pro already
comes with Chinese input method - which is not the same as S. E. Asia
languages.

Thanks.

Thanks for the help from Annie, cou-cou and Gustaf, I
tried your suggestion, and I am albe to input chinese
now!
Really appreciate your help.

I have one more question:
This works in MS word, but somehow it does not work when I
use Yahoo mail.
When I used it
in Word, I could input a chinese with pinyin, and if there
are several chinese characters match to same pinyin, I can
highlight the character, then a list of chinese charaters
with that same pinyin showed up, and I can select the one
I need. So this works perfectly fine.

But the same method does not work when I try to enter
chinese in either yahoo mail composor, or reply message
in wenxuecity. I can enter chinese character there,
but it does not give me a choice on which chinese
character to match this pinyin. It picks one character
for me, and I can not chnage it. Could you let me know
why, and how this can be fixd?

Thanks in advance!

Hi:

I am not familiar with the two applications you mentioned.

When typing in the two, did you notice the language bar on the right bottom
corner? If so, were they displayed as the same when you working on Word? If
not, you may wish to alter input method to the one you use in Word. If it's
the same, it's out of my knowledge.

Sorry for not being able to help further. Good luck!!!

PS: If it's possible, I would suggest you to purchase a multi-language pack
with the language(s) you wish such as SC or TC. It will make your life a
lot easier - as I am using English OS with multi-language pack also
installed.

Thanks! I looked at the language bar, they are the same
whether I worked on Word or others.

How much does the muti-language pack cost?
One way for me to get by is to input the chinese char
in MS word, then I copy and paste into text mesg
for wenxuecity. But this won't work for Yahoo mail,
but if I use the Word doc as attachment when using yahoo
mail, then it's still readable.

So I suspect I might has an older version of IE.
I am using IE 5.50. Is there a newer version of IE has
stronger
support for multi-language?

Thanks for the help!
