How to identify source of problem?

My system is very unstable, repeatedly hanging &
crashing. It all seems to be due to a driver which I
cannot identify. Error ID is 1005. Error is DCOM got
error "%%%1" attempting to start the service %2 with
arguments "$3" in order to run the server:%4. I think I
have isolated this to a file rpcss.dll in folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32 but cannot identify a specific program or vendor.
How I can identify what specifically is responsible for the problem?
