How to I define a default format for phone numbers in contact lis.

On my old system, Outlook contacts somehow were set so that no matter how I
entered each phone number, the program conformed each to follow the format
(555) 555-5555. I recently reinstalled the software on my new notebook and
there is no default format. Can anyone tell me where this preference is set?

You cannot set this option. Masking of phone numbers occurs automatically
when you set your dialing location correctly.
 
Control Panel > Phone and modem options... > Dialing Rules, edit your
location and replace the "1" with your area code.
