Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions. Post the model and
model number and someone might be able to point you to the documentation.

I bought an external hard drie for this stupid laptop that runs xp. IT will
not recognize the hardrive it is an 80 meg with 4 partitions. An adaptec.

There are 6 usb drivers in the system information folder and two showing up
under add/remoe programs.

on a laptop yes but on my original IBM desktop with windows 98 350mgz
pentium ii, No.
THe documention claims it can install on win98se but nothing about win 98.
My computer was hacked again and I cannot get IE 4.0 upgraded to get on the
internet to updrive all my drivers after I reformatted due to political
terrorism and non conformation of separation of church and state.

I have info I want to gain access to since 1984 from an apple II about a
microchip in my back the Reagan administration stuck there.

I may have to network it but that is a new area for me that I didn't have to
much success in the past.
I think it may be hackers because that is most the trouble I have been
having.
I do not email.
I do not participate in conversation because I cannot express myself or get
legal representation or medical THe government is evil.

Methinks the external hard drive isn't the problem ;-)

Me thinks that Mixcrosoft should have predicted an emigration of
windows 98 to windows xp and would have provided a proper drive.

The probable reason your external drive can't work on your desktop is
that it requires at least USB 2.0 and your older desktop only has USB
1.1. You could buy a USB 2.0 PCI card and put it in the desktop. If you
are uncomfortable working with hardware, have a local professional do
it for you.

If you won't leave the house, try this site first for help:

Don't bother to reply because I've plonked you.

Be gentle. You are likely dealing with an untreated
schizophrenic (if you weren't sure what to call what you're
reading), or one who isn't taking his meds (because they're
actually poison).

He needs help, not ridicule.

Good luck!
