Hi,
I have WinXP Pro and Excel 2003
I have dual monitor.
I want to have one Excel book in monitor one and the other in monitor two...
I want be able to open 2 excel instances so I can have both open and move
without problems...
This is not happening in Excel 2003, but I am able to do it in Word 2003 ?

Any help ? Thanks

Seems to be a popular topic this week.

Anyhow, I'm aware of two different ways to do this.

#1. From the Windows "Start" menu, use the cascaded menu to open Excel.
Once Excel is running, use "File >> Open" to open an Excel file. Repeat the
steps for the second file.

#2. Point to an Excel file on the desktop or in a folder. With the right
mouse button, click "Send To >> Excel". Repeat the steps for the second
file.

For #2, you might not see "Excel" in the "Send To" menu at first. To add it
there, put a shortcut to the Excel program into the folder
C:\Windows\SendTo\

(I use Excel 97.)

Alex,

You can do a couple of things.

One, you can start one instance of Excel, restore it (non-maximize it), and
adjust it across the two monitors. You may be able to now maximize it,
though I find it maximizes to the single monitor it was last maximized on.
Now open two workbooks, and use Window - Arrange - Vertical. The advanges
of this are that there's one Excel Application window, and you can spread
your toolbars out side by side and use less vertical space for them.
Linking is easy across the workbooks, and they update dynamically.

Or you can start another instance of Excel (Start - etc.). Restore each,
and adjust it to approximately one monitor or the other. At this point you
may be able to maximize it, and it will grab the monitor it's in. The
toolbars will be duplicated in these two instances. Links aren't as easy to
build (you can't just click a cell after having typed =). And when the data
changes, the links won't
update automatically across these two instances (you have to save the file,
update the links, etc.).
