Am running an AMD Barton 2800+ on an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe. So with
that, do I press F2 or what?
One common way is to press the Del key when you first power on, but that's
not necessarily right for your computer. Watch the screen carefully when you
first boot; there's often a message there telling you what to do. If not,
check your system documentation or check with your vendor.
Also look here:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Or just
try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.
And no, I do not need to enter the BIOS,
Right (but see below).
There is no real DOS prompt in Windows. What you need to do this is to boot
from a floppy diskette. You may have to get into the BIOS to change the boot
order to permit that.
Also, if someone is reviewing this, then do you have anything to add
for it?
Yes. Although a BIOS upgrade normally goes well, it is not without danger.
If something goes wrong while the upgrade is an progress (for example, a
lapse in power) you can be left with no BIOS at all, and an unbootable
computer.
Do a BIOS upgrade if you need to--because you are having a problem that the
new version is known to fix--not just because one is available.
I am doing this because I thought that I had issues with my
onboard sata controller, but when I came back to start this
procedure, it starting working fine. See, my OS is installed on my
Raptor SATA drive.
Then I wouldn't do it at all.
