On booting, how can I get to the BIOS so that I can start the procedure to
flash a BIOS and such and copy items off of a disk? Thanks much.

Try repeatedly pressing either the F1 or Delete (Del) key when you first
turn on the PC. These are commonly to a number of PCs.

You would try pressing F2 or Del keys during the POST depending on who
provided the BIOS, or read the manual to know for sure.

Not a Windows issue. Consult the manual coming along with your PC.
so that I can start the procedure to flash a BIOS

There is no need to enter the BIOS setup in order to flash (update) the
firmware. If you are not familiar with updating the BIOS, you may want
to leave it as is or take the system to a technician. If the update
fails, your system has been rendered useless.

Am running an AMD Barton 2800+ on an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe. So with that, do I
press F2 or what? And no, I do not need to enter the BIOS, but just get to
the DOS prompt right after post to do as ASUS says in the following link:

Also, if someone is reviewing this, then do you have anything to add for it?
I am doing this because I thought that I had issues with my onboard sata
controller, but when I came back to start this procedure, it starting
working fine. See, my OS is installed on my Raptor SATA drive.

Thanks much.

One common way is to press the Del key when you first power on, but that's
not necessarily right for your computer. Watch the screen carefully when you
first boot; there's often a message there telling you what to do. If not,
check your system documentation or check with your vendor.

Also look here: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Or just
try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.

Right (but see below).

There is no real DOS prompt in Windows. What you need to do this is to boot
from a floppy diskette. You may have to get into the BIOS to change the boot
order to permit that.

for it?

Yes. Although a BIOS upgrade normally goes well, it is not without danger.
If something goes wrong while the upgrade is an progress (for example, a
lapse in power) you can be left with no BIOS at all, and an unbootable
computer.

Do a BIOS upgrade if you need to--because you are having a problem that the
new version is known to fix--not just because one is available.

I am doing this because I thought that I had issues with my
onboard sata controller, but when I came back to start this
procedure, it starting working fine. See, my OS is installed on my
Raptor SATA drive.

Then I wouldn't do it at all.

If you have an Asus board you should have the manual to go with it. Most of
them use the delete or F1 key.

If you don't know how, you probably shouldn't.

Unless you have an issue that the latest flash file will fix, STAY THE HELL
AWAY FROM FLASHING THE BIOS.
