I had to re-install 2k after failure, but did
not want to lose ant files, so I install a
second wiinnt directory. Now I durring
boot, I need to chose even though I deleted
my old directories after re-install. How do
I fix this?

Thank you for any kind help!

You need only use a text editor to modify the boot.ini file. Assuming C:
is your boot/system partition, boot.ini is in the root directory there.
By default it is a hidden/system (and I think read-only) file; to see
and edit it you must remove those attributes. To see how to do this, go
to a command prompt and type
attrib /?
To see the rather simple syntax of the boot.ini file, Google for
boot.ini and discussions and examples will pop up. Just make sure you
remove only the reference(s) to the directory you removed, NOT any
pointing the the one you need.

Since I have not had any response to this yet, I am responding
to it myself. I have had no luck finding an answer to this problem
so let me explain in more detail. I had a system failure in which
one of my system files was lost or corrupted. I was not able to
restore it from the Windows 2000 installation CD, or by using my
backups. So I did a "New" installation of Windows 2000. I was
worried about losing any of my files, so I created a new system
directory called WINNT1. I renamed WINNT to WINOLD. The installation
was succesful and I recovered all of my files. Eventually I deleted
the WINOLD directory (as the new WINNT1 directory was okay now). But
now when the system boots, it prompts me to select one of two
ooperating systems (the old one that is gone, and the new one that
is working). It has a timer that when it expires will select the one
that is highlighted (the new one). I wish to get rid of this choice
since it is superfilous. Can anyone tell me how to do this???

HELP!!!

Happy New Year!

Easy, take the unwanted entry out of BOOT.INI ....

You need to change the attributes for the file... Turn off "Read Only".
Don't forget to turn it back on after modification...
